During the annual congres of the Nederlands Oogheelkundig Gezelschap (NOG) on April 29, 2024, Dr. Thilo Buck was awarded the Binkhorst Donders Price 2024 for his Thesis "CRB1 gene therapy coming of age: Mechanistic insight and rAAV assays on mouse & human retinal organoids". Previous winners include amongst others Prof Camiel Boon, Dr. Elon van Dijk, Dr. Niels Brouwer, Dr. Mays Talib. This prestigious price is awarded every year for the best Thesis on Opthalmic scientific research in The Netherlands.

Thilo defended his Thesis September 28, 2022, and previously received in 2023 the Greiner Award during the annual symposium of the Netherlands Society of Gene and Cell Therapy. Previously Thilo Buck and Pete Quinn was selected amongst the best publications of 2019.
